Purpose of Soybean Disease Survey

  • Identify which soybean diseases exist in NY and understand their distribution
  • Assay soil samples from a wide geographic range for the presence of soybean cyst nematode
  • Officially document the discovery of ‘new’ diseases to NY
  • Provide this information to growers

Six soybean diseases 'new' to NY

  • 2012:  Charcoal Rot – Cayuga County
  • 2012:  Fusarium Wilt – Cortland, Herkimer and Madison counties
  • 2012:  Sudden Death Syndrome – Cayuga, Columbia, Schoharie, and St. Lawrence counties
  • 2013:  Brown Stem Rot – Herkimer and Yates counties
  • 2014:  Northern Stem Canker – Jefferson, Livingston, Niagara, Ontario, Seneca and Wayne counties
  • 2015:  Powdery Mildew - Cayuga County
  • 2016:  Bacterial Wilt - Yates County
  • 2017:  Sudden Death Syndrome (officially confirmed) - Wayne County
